IHT enquiries
Between April and November 2023 HMRC opened 2,000 compliance checks into IHT returns. These are those required for probate, when someone dies, and those required for trusts (e.g., reporting transfers into trusts, ten year anniversary charges and exits from the trust). This is a clear target area for them to recover deemed loss to the exchequer, so it is important to get the forms right.
