National Insurance Voluntary Contributions
The 5 April 2025 marks the deadline for National Insurance Voluntary Contributions. Until this date you are able to fill gaps in your National Insurance records for the period from April 2006 to April 2018, after the 5 April this will be limited to only the previous 6 tax years. You can check the number of qualifying years of NIC on your individual Government Gateway account.
The number of qualifying years required by an individual to receive a full State Pension is 35 years. Your National Insurance record may be incomplete if; you were unemployed and not claiming any benefits, employed with low earnings, self employed with profits under the small profits threshold and not making National Insurance Voluntary Contributions or living or working outside the UK.
You will need to check which National Insurance Voluntary Contributions you are eligible to pay through your government gateway account, before making top up payments. The top up payments are made by making Voluntary Class 3 National Insurance Contributions.
