Child Benefit – should you re-consider whether to claim for this?

With the rules about HICBC changing from 6 April 2024, taxpayers with income up to £80,000 a year should look into re-registering for child benefit. If child benefit is not claimed pro-actively now (or within the next three months), they risk losing their entitlement to the benefit, as the rules only allow claims to be backdated for up to three months.

Thus, it is better to claim the child benefit now and then look at paying the HICBC in due course, if necessary, rather than losing the entitlement in full or in part, because the claim for child benefit was submitted too late.

Should you have any questions concerning the above, please call 023 8046 1259 or email Gemma Hedges.
