Common mistakes for in-house payroll

There are some common mistakes I have seen businesses make when processing their payroll. Some larger businesses are lucky enough to employ payroll specialists but others cannot justify the position due to the relatively small amount of time required to complete it.

For business or owner managers, Payroll can be a complex, time consuming area, and with the ever changing legislation and requirements, it can be difficult to get right.

The most common mistakes I have seen when migrating client’s data to our solution are:

  • Incorrect use of M rate NI
  • Employment allowance not claimed
  • Apprenticeship levy not included
  • Incorrect calculation of pensions
  • Incorrect configuration of payroll software
  • Incomplete auto enrolment compliance processes
